Bank of Nevada, First Independent Bank CEO John Guedry announces retirement, effective December 31

PHOENIX (September 21, 2022) – John Guedry, who served as chief executive of Bank of Nevada and First Independent Bank for more than a decade, announced he will step down on December 31.

To ensure a smooth leadership transition for its Nevada division, Western Alliance Bank, parent company of Bank of Nevada and First Independent Bank, has hired Robert Cerminaro, a 25-year banking industry veteran, as its new CEO, from January 1. .

Cerminaro will join the company on September 26, working alongside Guedry over the coming months to facilitate the leadership transition for clients and colleagues.

During his successful tenure, Guedry made the bank the lender of choice for Nevada businesses, including securing the high-profile commercial and educational banking partnership with the Raiders and Allegiant Stadium. He also oversaw the launch of the company’s national gaming line of business and its expansion into the Utah market.

Guedry’s longstanding commitment to improving public education in Nevada has made a real difference in the state, including his efforts to ensure that every K-12 student in the state receives a financial education. Among his many professional and civic awards are the Public Education Foundation’s Education Hero Award (2015), UNLV’s Lee Business School Alumnus of the Year (2017), and the William S Boyd for outstanding support of legal aid and pro bono services by the Southern Nevada Legal Aid Center (2019).

Cerminaro brings more than 25 years of banking experience to Western Alliance, having held various senior management positions in commercial, corporate and investment banking at Santander Bank, KeyBank, Citigroup and Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

Most recently, he was Managing Director and Head of Midsize Corporate Banking for Santander Bank in New York, where he led all aspects of the group’s strategic direction, including spearheading the re-segmentation of the whole business and national expansion. He has served on the senior operating committee of commercial banks and was a member of the US senior management leadership team where he was instrumental in initiating and executing several marketing, business development initiatives , transformation and bank-wide risk management.

“Bob is a proven leader who brings with him extensive commercial banking experience and an ability to build strong client relationships that will serve us well in the rapidly growing Nevada market,” Bruckner said.

Cerminaro holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Pittsburgh, a certificate in finance from the London School of Economics and a master’s degree from St. John’s University. The Connecticut resident is moving to Las Vegas and will work in BON’s divisional offices.
