Eleven graduates of the Nordonia class of 2021 are expected to compete in a sport in college.
Nordonia athletic director Rob Eckenrode said the list of Nordonia graduates includes twin siblings Joy Banks and Jonathan Banks.
Joy Banks signed on to play volleyball at Northern Kentucky University and Jonathan Banks signed on to play football at Mercyhurst University.
The list of Nordonia graduates also includes basketball teammates Madison Cluse and Hallie Majoros taking it to the next level. Cluse travels to Miami, Ohio and Majoros has signed to play for Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Sal Perrine is also on the list of 11 graduates with his commitment to wrestling at Ohio University.
Perrine won a Division I state championship at 182 pounds. His playoffs included section and district titles, and he finished the season with a 49-0 record.
In addition to Jon Banks, four other Nordonia graduates have pledged to continue their footballing careers. The other four are Shane Robinson (Mercyhurst), Mike Westbrooks (Notre Dame College), Billy Levak (Westminster) and Giaunni Armstrong (Hocking College).
The other two Nordonia graduates with university commitments are Samantha Wiehe (football, University of Houston) and Dylan Flynn (Drury University).
“This was an incredibly talented senior class who graduated from Nordonia High School,” Eckenrode said. “As well as being excellent athletes, they are all of an exceptional character and truly exemplify the meaning of a student-athlete. The Nordonia sports department is extremely proud of their accomplishments and looks forward to watching their future endeavors.”
Chisholm is committed to Hocking
A graduate of North 2021, Rashid Chisholm will continue his college and basketball career at Hocking College.
“Rashid has been the recipient of each leadership award for our basketball program, a testament to his continued development as a person, student and athlete,” said North Boys basketball coach Marc Smith.
Norton update
Norton athletic director Don Shimek said four Norton 2021 graduates have finalized plans to play sports in college.
Norton’s teammates Tommy Reynolds and Phillip Wallace are expected to continue their basketball careers together at the University of Pittsburgh in Bradford, Alaina Davis will travel to Malone to play football and Jayden Morr is expected to wrestle at Ashland.
Northwest update
Three graduates from the North West of the 2021 class have made decisions about their university future.
Northwest athletic director Jason Hathaway has said Anthony Grossnickle will travel to Tiffin to play football, Billy Crookston is continuing his football career at Walsh and Riley Cudnik has signed on to play volleyball at West Liberty University.
