Kelvin Banks from Texas stands out from the crowd

It’s never easy to choose the top 10 performances of any given week among real freshmen. But the sheer number of outstanding first-year performances in Week 6 made the task nearly impossible. So that means a lot more for Texas offensive tackle Kelvin Banks to win True Freshman of the Week for its Saturday screening, as selected by 247Sports’ Chris Hummer.

Offensive linemen don’t make numbers, but Banks did what any offensive lineman hopes for in Oklahoma’s Red River destruction in Texas. The former five-star didn’t allow the player in front of him to post numbers, holding the Sooners pass-rushers he was up against bagless.

“It’s no surprise that Banks performed well under pressure,” Hummer wrote. “He had a very similar effort against Alabama in his second career start. Banks also didn’t allow a sack that day despite having to handle All-American Will Anderson most of the afternoon.”
